Fabulous one layer challenge

Kristina Werner has issued a challenge for one layer cards using only stamps and CS. I dug out a set that hasn't seen ink in porbably 4 years! Fontwerks Flower Power by Elsie Flannigan. It's so cute and full of doodled flowers that I just love. Stamped with black and white on a HS card base, and added some piercing and dashed lines with a gel pen.

Here is my FAILED second attempt:

This card, while one layer, did not turn out so well, but I wanted to show you all that mess-ups DO occur, most of us just don't show them on our blogs! lol The idea I had in my head wasn't executed well and this card did not turn out correctly. I think maybe if I turn it long-ways and redo the masked/embossed part it might be better. This just isn't visually appealing. When masking, it is so difficult to keep things in line and even. You can see my blue sponged rectangle is all wonky, and it should be further down the card base too.

Oh well, It was fun playing around with my new stamps from PTI, called Masculine Motifs

Thanks for stopping by!

Dana, don't take this the wrong way, but I think I actually prefer your "mess-up" card! LOL! I really need to try more masking. :) This card is great and I love how the koi at the bottom is not only colored, but "sticking out" of the rest of the "water". :) Very nice!

Remember you just told me we were on the same wave length? We seriously are! I just made a card that is HS and black....one layer! No joke! I should email you a pic! Mine did not turn out is cute as yours! (It's not getting posted!)

So, I do love both cards! Even the "failed attempt" is really cute! Great job!

Well... I'm still trying to figure out what you don't like about your card. I think it looks great! And... the top card! Those doodles are so much fun! I've never seen that set before and I really love what you've done with it!

Wow, and I thought that card is fabulous! Maybe it's my moniter. I guess we are our own worst critics. I totally understand how you feel. If you don't like it, it doesn't matter. But I am a firm believer, that if we do not make the mistakes, we do not learn. I keep learning and learning . . .

Fabulous card! I love the one layered look, you are great at it! Me on the other hand, I cant so one layer to save my life! Oh and Dana, your "failed" card is great. There is nothing wrong with it!

These are both awesome Dana! I used to really love Elsie's stuff back in my scrapping days. I think the second card looks wonderful, not sure what's "failed" about it ;)

Those one-layer cards can be just as challenging as multi-layer cards but you pulled it off beautifully. I can totally see this as a teen girl card. And the edge is so cool! Did you do that yourself or do you have a die?

Man, you're picky ! Hate for you to see one of my cards ! But I agree with you re masking - I had exactly the same problem today. Mine looked WORSE tho !!!

I actually really like that "mess up" card. That fish stamp is great, and I think you did a fine job on the masking! But that's just MHO.

Why do you say the second card is messed up? I actually like it better than the first one. The first one is cool too though!

No fun being poked here--I love it. The messed up card, that is :) I also like it better than the first one, although that one is cool, too!

Dana, I love them both! It is so hard for me to make a one layer card, but girl, you did a great job. Seriously - your fish card is fantastic. I love it!

I really need to try a one-layer card....it seems soo difficult with all the fun stuff to use!! hehe Love the black and HS together!

As far as the failed one.....I actually made "another" argyle card where I tried to mask a square of argyle....ughhh...did not turn out....Like Laurie...my failed attempt won't be posted either! But I am glad to see that others do have cards that just don't turn out as we envision them!

I think that both your cards look great! I like how the orange fish sticks out in the second one!

Really lovely card! That color reminds me to summer :)

Oh, Dana -- how can you call that card a mess-up? I love it. The concept is great and I think you're being too hard on yourself with the execution. None of the stuff you mentioned seemed too obvious to me. Both are great and have unique touches. Love 'em!

an example of "different strokes for different folkes," I'm lovin' the mess-up, too - reminds me of Escher's art! See http://www.dartmouth.edu/~matc/math5.pattern/lesson7art.html for samples. thanx for the inspiration!
