I have never seen a Pink Underwing up close before, and the only reason I did so this morning is because it was obviously in the process of dying. They are a northern species, mostly living in Eastern Canada, but do occasionally fly as far south as New Jersey. I felt so lucky to experience this moth today.
This is the most vibrant pink color I've ever witnessed on an animal in nature! I'm talking HOT PINK here folks!
I do a lot of insect trapping and moth surveying for my job. (In case you were wondering why I am so excited about this moth!) I've also loved insects since I was small...I'm just fascinated by most "bugs" and spiders and flying creatures!

That is GORGEOUS! It looks like you photoshopped it with some paint program! What a great nature find, but too bad it was dying! I'm glad you got a pic, though, cause that's definitely a keeper! What a beautiful bug! LOL!
what a stunning creature!! im normally scared of moths, but this one is a beauty, especially since it has my fave colour PINK!!!
and spiders, totally freak me out {lol}
xx
What a lovely picture, nature is certainly beautiful. It's such a shame it was dying though. Thanks for sharing this great find with us.xx
So beautiful - and such an awesome photo. So bad that it's dying! :(
Mother Nature gave you an AMAZING gift this morning!! A truly beautiful creature!! Thank you for sharing!!
What a treat! i've never seen one of these IRL. i love moths - we have a lot of varied moth visitors here, my favorite being the Luna Moth. i never get tired of seeing them. TFS!
Living in the South my entire life, I had NO idea such a moth existed! For us, moths are "pesk that hover near your porch light and try to race you into the house when you open the door." I truly appreciate the new perspective with this beautiful creature. Can't wait to share this with my DDs.
How beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
Very stunning picture.....I see some inspiration here,
Malieta:)
How pretty, I find moths very fascinating but am also a little scared of them too. I do love the vibrant pink color on this one. Thanks for sharing your photo. Ida
